You and your “Social Anxiety”
你與“社恐”的關系
來自 Liu Xiwei 的調研報告
It seems to me that the term “social anxiety” is used very frequently among teenagers, including myself. To better understand what is on their mind, I did an online survey on students aged between 15 and 19 to share their understanding about social anxiety. According to the survey results on high school students’ use of “social anxiety,” 58.02% of respondents think they have “social anxiety,” but after understanding the actual concept, 51.92% of them don’t think they have it anymore. There are various reasons why respondents could think they have social anxiety and why they think other people say they have social anxiety. I think the lack of mental health knowledge may be the key reason why many of them misunderstood the concept of social anxiety. The results showed that 41.35% of the students responded that their schools do not have classes or lectures about mental health, while 33.65% said they rarely have these classes. 92.31% of the respondents think it is very important to pay attention to high school students’ mental health. The survey indicates that many teenagers say they have “social anxiety” when they don’t experience it, according to the medical definition. It also suggests that high school students’ mental health is very important, and we should have more classes and try to overcome this awkwardness by ourselves.
